The goal of my research is to understand what causes reading difficulties, how these difficulties can be identified and treated effectively, and how they are linked to a person's wellbeing. I am a passionate advocate for the rapid translation of scientific knowledge into real-world practice.
In the past I have held academic positions at the University of Western Australia, Curtin University, Oxford University, and Macquarie University. I currently hold positions as Professor at the Australian Centre for the Advancement of Literacy at ACU, and Director of Research Translation at the Dyslexia SPELD Foundation. I also support the research translation efforts of MOTIf, the Australian Literacy Clinic, Street Library Australia, and Literacy Planet.
I would like to acknowledge the efforts of all the people who have contributed to the work included in these pages. I would also like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands upon which I live and work: the Whadjuk Noongar people and the Cammeraygal clan of the Darug Nation.
